A subtle detail, captured for posterity

Laser engraving

Laser engraving is an extremely precise technique in which a powerful laser beam vaporises the material in specific areas. This creates a permanent, high-contrast mark without coming into contact with the surface. The result: razor-sharp details, perfect for small text, codes and graphic elements.

The technique has a wide range of applications — from serial numbers on industrial components to logos on promotional gifts — and works on both flat and slightly curved surfaces.

Over

Laser engraving

In laser engraving, a concentrated beam of light is directed onto the material. The heat causes a thin top layer to vaporise, creating a mark. The engraving depth, speed and intensity are fully adjustable, resulting in precise and reproducible results.

Steps in the process:

  • Submission of the design (vector or high-resolution bitmap)
  • Setting engraving parameters based on the material
  • Engraving using a computer-controlled laser
  • Visual inspection and, if necessary, cleaning of the surface

Pros

  • Exceptionally fine detail and high resolution
  • Ideal for markings such as serial numbers, barcodes and QR codes
  • Non-contact process: no wear or deformation
  • Suitable for metals and plastics
  • Highly suitable for batch production and individual coding

Drawbacks

  • Less suitable for deep engravings or tactile markings
  • Reflective or transparent materials require special settings
  • Colour reproduction is limited to the contrast between the material and the marking
